post from a Texas winter night...

glorious just glorious...the night tonight, the brillance of the moon as it lights my yard ...the deep black of the shadows where rose is nosing by... soft ... incandesecent gleam on the sage I'm cutting...no light from the house ..so bright the night right now.

winter beauty is hard to find in the hill country of Texas most days...bleak is the word, no cover of snow, no rolling water to mask the gray, just dark and dead leaves...damp and dank on some days in the same areas so hot and crisp in the summer...it's spring and fall in Texas to feel a moon lit night...unless you wander to the beach where I grew up and then Winter can inspire...the water rolling in, the long gleaming empty beach under a moon's sublime glow...and only the sound of the water...the gulls long gone....that was winter I know...the beach in the winter.

so the moon vision is so welcome tonight...watching that man and still all these years later wondering what it is he sees as he casts that long gleam of light on us all...peering down through those empty branches does he still see me?
